Trish Barsby is a visually impaired artist who lives and paints in Red Hill, a small town in the Upper Perkiomen Valley of Pennsylvania. In her mid-twenties she was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a juvenile form of macular degeneration, and she stepped away from art.
A decade later, Trish came back to it. With her eyesight fading, she had to learn new ways to draw fine detail. She started with pen and ink, moved into pencil as her confidence grew, and eventually added digital art.
Trish draws inspiration from the perfect imperfections found in nature. She works on black paper because other colors strain her eyes, and because it helps her avoid mistakes caused by the blind spots her condition creates on white paper.
She is also an active equestrian and a long-distance marathon runner. She keeps up the active lifestyle she has always loved to help others see all that visually impaired people can do.
