COVID-19 Relief for ASPIE Artists
COVID-19 is going to be with us for the foreseeable future. Our ASPIE client’s situation will continue to decline. Your generous gift and ongoing support will go a long way in helping them to pull through.
I know we are weary of the challenges we face as we deal with the Coronavirus. But I wanted to let you know that COVID-19 has added increased difficulties for our clients. ASPIE helps adult artists with disabilities display their artwork, providing a valuable source of supplemental income and a tremendous sense of pride. Yet COVID-19 has brought much of their work to a halt. Some require personal assistance that is no longer available under social distancing guidelines. They don’t go to their therapies or counseling sessions. All of our ASPIE artists are having difficulty getting supplies to make their art. That means they can no longer create, which has both a financial and an emotional impact.
Some reside in shared living arrangements where they are in “lock-down” conditions with no permission for family visits. And those who have cognitive disabilities don’t deal well with this kind of disruption. There is nothing more difficult to write than an appeal for help. But several of our ASPIE artists need your support. Please donate to help ASPIE send them care packages to lift their spirits and help them cope. For some, we can order and ship their supplies directly to them.
I have talked to several agencies who manage these group facilities, and they tell me that their lock-down won’t change until their local authorities declare they are fully open for business. So, no relief is in sight for months to come.
